This course is designed to provide awareness on what must be done to provide care in an environment where more advanced
care is more than an hour away. Whether you are in an actual wilderness environment or not, there are many cases where you may find
yourself without quick access to emergency assistance.
Length / Certificate:
This course is 14 to 16 hours in length depending on
class size. Upon successful completion, you will receive a Wilderness First Aid certificate. The
certificate is valid for 3 years and is recognized by the American Camping Association, Boy Scouts
of America and other organizations.

Initial Assessment
Vital Signs
Physical Exam, SAMPLE history
Control of Life Threatening Bleeding
Injuries to the Head and Spine.
Injuries to Muscles and Bones (Splinting)
Medical Emergencies (heart attack, stroke, diabetes, allergic reaction, asthma, etc)
Evacuation Considerations
Hands-on time and Scenario Practice.
Prerequisite
Prior exposure to CPR and first aid is essential for doing well in wilderness first aid. Please ensure you have previously attended basic CPR and first aid training prior to attendance in this course. You do NOT need to have a current certificate and the training can be from any provider (Red Cross, American Heart Association, military, etc.)

Mandatory Textbook
The textbook is not included in the course fee. You must obtain the textbook for pre-course review
as this enables us to reduce presentation time in favor of increased hands-on and group discussion time.
